Lonely Planet Guide to St Cuthberts Way. A stunning walk to Holy Island From Melrose. or start from Berwick!

Walking Saint Cuthbert's Way? As seen in Lonely Planet...

Here is a travel suggestion: drive to Berwick upon Tweed, or take any train to arrive Berwick Upon Tweed station from anywhere in England (or Scotland). Get a cab to Spittal, in ten minutes and stay at 5 Old Templars.
This can be your comfortable and serene base for the eastern section of the incredible St Cuthberts Way walk from Melrose to the Holy Island itself. Lonely Planet says "It's this final stretch that makes the trail wholly unique. Walkers must wait until low water to make the 3-mile crossing to the tidal island, typically removing their boots and feeling the squelch of soft mud between their toes."
Why not use our lovely house as a base and you will be treated to all that our incredible Northumberland & Scottish Borders area has to offer. It suits families of 4/5 or two couples.

⭐ 10/10 Airbnb Review
Had a six night stay with our two boys (15 & 12). The accommodation was excellent for our family as there was plenty of space and also quite a quirky design.
We couldn’t fault it at all. Lovely to be so close to Spittal beach that you could hear the sea with the windows open. About a 25 min walk into Berwick or a 5–10 min drive.
We were able to explore the coast from this base, down as far as Alnwick and we even did a day trip in the car to Edinburgh!
Really nice touches that the host provided a selection of local coffee, cheese and biscuits and a pint of milk for our arrival!
